Trained electrician receives award for 50 years' service
A man who first trained as an electrician 50 years ago has been given an award for his service to the industry.
Gordon Dodds, 66, has been working at the Port of Tyne in South Shields for half a century and is soon to retire.
He and 12 other employees, who have a combined 360 years of experience, took part in celebrations held at the organisation's headquarters at Maritime House, the Shields Gazette reports.
Mr Dodds first started his electrical training in 1958, five days after his 16th birthday.
He said: "I have worked at Port of Tyne for a long time because it is a great company and I've always had a good job to do."
Andrew Moffat, chief executive of the port, added that the firm has a great deal of loyalty from its workers, many of who have been there for over 30 years.
Earlier this week, Financial Advice warned people not to attempt tricky DIY projects such as rewiring unless they have had proper electrical training.
