Teenage girl on electrical training course wins competition

A teenage girl training as an electrician has shown off her skills and picked up first prize in the southern heat of an electrician competition.

Sabrina Thomas, 19, won her heat of SkillElectric and is now hoping to get through to the national final at the Birmingham NEC.

The competition is a chance for young people on electrical training courses to show off their abilities and they have to undertake a series of practical tests to do so.

Miss Thomas, from Bosham, is the first female to take part in the competition so far.

She told the Chichester Observer: "Eventually I would like to go into project management in the construction industry.

"I've loved my electrical training course and know that it'll stand me in good stead in the future."

Miss Thomas may have competition from another female electrician, it would seem, as BBC Berkshire last week reported on 24-year-old Ami Cowee who has just become Bracknell and Wokingham College's first female electrical installation graduate.
