Plumbing training news: Firm wins water research award
One company has won an accolade for its research into how aerated showerheads can save water and money – something that many be of interest to those on plumbing courses.
United Utilities was given a silver award in the Water Solve category at the Environment Agency's Water Efficiency Awards.
The company worked with Liverpool John Moores University on a two-year research programme to establish whether aerated showerheads can reduce water and energy consumption.
As part of the study, nearly 400 homes in the Great Sankey area of Warrington were given the opportunity to have water-saving devices installed by those with plumbing training.
Ben Nadel, United Utilities' water resources strategy manager, said that the new showerheads "can prevent more than 12 tonnes of CO2 emissions on every 1,000 cubic litres of water saved", as well as helping customers to "reduce their water bills by an average of £33 a year".
United Utilities is currently working on a project in Crewe to replace an old trunk main in the hope of reducing water leakage in the area.
