People with plumbing training 'may be needed for Kendal water project'

Kendal's increasing demand for water may mean that the skills of those with plumbing training are required in the area.

From September, United Utilities will be working to install a new 1.1 km water main from one side of the town to the other.

Supplies to 2,000 homes in the Heights area will be modernised by the new pipeline.

Project manager Paul Wheadon said the scheme is "extremely important" to "make sure people in Kendal have the high-quality drinking water they need".

It is thought that the work could last for around three months and Mr Wheadon thinks that by keeping people "informed and working as efficiently as possible", disruption can be kept to a minimum.

Two information events are also being planned for Kendal residents, which will be held when the construction is due to start.

In related news, United Utilities is continuing with work in Liverpool to replace old water pipes and the project has now moved on to Sparling Street.
