People with electrician training 'may be working on smaller houses'

People with electrician training may find that they are fitting out smaller homes in future.

This is because, according to the Home Builders Federation (HBF), companies need to be building properties that the public can actually afford to buy.

The organisation believes that unless more land is delivered through the planning system, house builders will be forced to design smaller properties because no one will have the money to purchase them.

Steve Turner, head of communications at the HBF, said it is "quite an obvious equation" that if room sizes go up, "then the amount of land that you need to build a house on is going to increase and so the cost of the house is going to increase".

Mr Turner's comments come after the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment released a report which revealed that 57 per cent of new homeowners do not have enough storage in their property.
