New eco housing plans 'may need renewable energy training support'

One industry expert has commented on the government's plans for a new scheme that will see homeowners generate their own energy – something that may provide installation work for those with renewable energy training.

Andrew Moore, managing director of British Eco Energy, believes that many people would be eager to install such eco-friendly solutions in their home.

However, they lack the funding to do this, which is why the government's new scheme could be a positive step, he continues.

Mr Moore thinks that the economic climate does have an influence over people's decision to adopt environmentally-friendly strategies.

"At the moment, with the credit crunch and so on, people haven't got a lot of money to go and buy renewable energy – there's a capital cost required to pay for the system up front," explains.

The Department of Energy and Climate Change claims that around 15 per cent of the annual emissions cuts between now and 2020 will be made through small-scale renewable energy projects.
