Mechanic training graduate completes 50 years of service
Mechanic training may seem like a distant memory for a Halifax worker who has retired after 50 years' service at the same garage.
Bruce Arnold has hung up his overalls for the last time at Headlands Garage in Hipperholme after spending his entire working life at the firm.
After completing his mechanic training, Mr Arnold began plying his trade at the garage but then spent 30 years manning the petrol forecourt and shop.
Despite receiving offers of employment from elsewhere, the loyal pump attendant has never been tempted to switch his allegiances, he told the Halifax Courier.
"Customers have said they will miss me and that is nice," he said.
"I know more people here than at home."
Meanwhile, another tradesman has recently reached a special milestone in South Shields.
The Shields Gazette reported this month that 66-year-old electrician Gordon Dodds has completed 50 years of service at the Port of Tyne.
