Man with plumbing training starts petition against Warm Front scheme

A man with plumbing training has started a petition against the government's Warm Front scheme.

Keith Redmond, owner of K Redmond Plumbing and Heating Services in Marshside, claims that the initiative is harming small businesses.

This is because if the authorities provide insulation and heating improvements for residents on certain benefits, then "unfair competition to small independent installers" is created, he claims.

Mr Redmond currently has nearly 600 signatures and plans to send his petition to the prime minister, Champion reports.

"Our enquiries have dropped 50 per cent over the last 18 months because the Warm Front scheme has been more heavily promoted," Mr Redmond said. "Other firms have gone bust or had to lay off staff."

One person who may be in need of someone with plumbing training is George Plant from Alwen.

He recently told the Evening Leader that the leak in his council house is so bad he fears it could be a health hazard and often stays with his parents as a result.
