Man with plumbing training receives lifetime achievement award

A 68-year old man with plumbing training has been presented with a lifetime achievement award for his services to the construction sector.

Brain Langlois has been employed by B R Biddle and Son in Jersey for a total of 53 years.

Commenting, he said that the biggest changes he has seen in the industry over the last half-century have been enhancements in health and safety, improved pay and increased respect for the services that plumbers provide.

Mr Langlois has trained more than 40 apprentices during his tenure at the firm and many of his students have gone on to have successful businesses of their own, Jersey News reports.

The longstanding employee told the news provider that if he did not think he would still be in his position if he did not enjoy it as much as he does.

Earlier this month, James Cann, founder and chief executive of Hamilton Bradshaw, said that those who have plumbing training are likely to find that they have a "job for life".
