Liverpool project continues 'for those with plumbing training'
Changes being made to the water system in Liverpool are continuing this week, which may provide employment opportunities for those on plumbing training courses.
United Utilities is working to replace old water pipes in the city centre with newer, plastic models as part of a £2.9 billion water quality and environmental improvement programme.
Around £35 million has been invested into the Liverpool project by the company and it is hoped that it will improve the water supplies serving businesses in the area.
On Thursday, the work will move to Clarence Street and the road will need to be closed.
John Maher, United Utilities project engineer, said: "We are continuing to replace old cast-iron water mains in Liverpool to improve water quality and reduce leakage.
"We are using the latest engineering techniques to thread the new pipes through the old ones."
In other news which may be of interest to those on a plumbing training course, the London Evening Standard recently reported that tradesmen are more likely to find work during the recession than those looking for a white-collar position.
