Hartlepool housing plans 'may offer work for those with plumbing training'

People currently enrolled on plumbing training courses may find that their new-found skills can be put to good use in Hartlepool.

This is because council chiefs have just approved plans to borrow £2.3 million to match-fund a new scheme to build dozens of social housing properties.

A bid has been submitted to the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) by Hartlepool Borough Council for the remaining 50 per cent of the money needed.

According to the Hartlepool Mail, the HCA launched a new £50 million scheme to encourage local authorities to bid for social housing grants.

The aim of the project is to give the construction industry a boost during the recession and encourage new builds.

Councillor Ged Hall said: "Housing is a priority area in Hartlepool."

In related news, people with plumbing training may be required in Northamptonshire as the county's NHS Trust has put forward plans to redevelop Rushden Hospital.
