Green construction training 'may help homes switch to low-carbon solutions'

People on green construction courses may be needed to help disadvantaged households make the switch to a more low-carbon strategy.

This is because, in the opinion of energy and climate change secretary Ed Miliband, some homes need assistance in making the change towards renewable energy solutions.

Concerns have been expressed that the government's drive for a more eco-friendly structure could increase household fuel bills for many people.

However, Mr Miliband states that although there will be costs associated with the transition, it is his job to try and keep these as low as possible.

"These are big changes but we are not talking about big initial costs now. They occur later in the next decade," he claims.

The government is due to publish its renewable energy strategy tomorrow.

Douglas Fraser, business and economy editor at BBC Scotland, recently wrote on his blog for the news provider that the Scottish government has good plans in place for the use of renewable energy sources.
