Gas training news: Smart meters may make people more energy efficient
Having a smart meter installed by an engineer with gas training could prove to be very beneficial for many people, one regulator has claimed.
According to Ofgem, organisations have realised that the new devices will hopefully encourage Brits to become more energy efficient.
This is because they have a better idea of how much energy they are using and will be able to see "in pounds and pence" what it is costing them.
A spokesperson for Ofgem explained that smart meters are also useful because homeowners will no longer have to worry about receiving estimated bills.
"The supplier will then continually know exactly how much energy you are using, so the bill that it will send out to you will always be accurate," he said.
This opinion was supported by Gary Felgate from Energy Retail Association and Andy Atkins from Friends of the Earth, who claimed in a recent letter to the Guardian that the new initiative could "herald a revolution in the way customers manage energy".
