Engineers with electrical training 'restoring the views of Lorton Vale'
Engineers with electrical training are working hard to remove 3.4 km of overhead power cables and poles in Lorton Vale, near Crummock Water.
As part of a £5 million programme, they will be replaced by underground lines so that the beautiful countryside view is not spoilt.
The work is being carried out thanks to a partnership between Electricity North West, United Utilities, Friends of the Lake District and the Lake District National Park Authority.
A total of 11 km of overhead power lines have already been removed in Cumbria as part of the scheme.
Penny Ozanne, who works for both Friends of the Lake District and the Lake District National Park Authority, said: "This is great news for some of our most highly valued landscapes which will benefit from uninterrupted views."
It would seem as though people with electrical training have plenty of work in the area at the moment, as a project is also being undertaken in Barrow to remove 34 old steel pylons and replace them with newer models.
