Electrician training needed 'to provide reliable power to Barrow'
People with electrical training are getting to work in Barrow to remove 34 old steel pylons and replace them with newer models.
The work is being undertaken by United Utilities and is part of a £2 million maintenance project in the area.
Working with Electricity North West, the company is aiming to make sure that the 30,000 customers in Barrow are receiving the most reliable electricity possible.
Carrying one of the town's most important power circuits, the structures, which are around 120 ft tall, were originally built in 1944.
Bob Law, United Utilities project manager, said: "The towers we are replacing carry electricity at 132,000 volts so they are vital parts of the power network serving Barrow. Keeping them in peak working condition is our job."
Recently, United Utilities that it is going to be using helicopters to better allow people with electrician training to survey overhead power lines in south Cumbria.
