Electrical training news: Bureaucratic planning system 'means smaller homes'

The skills of those on electrical training courses may be needed for new home builds, although the properties are likely to be small unless more land is given to developers in the future.

This is the opinion of Steve Turner, head of communications at the Home Builders Federation, who said that the planning system in the UK is "very bureaucratic".

As a result, the land for the number of houses the country needs is not being provided and builders have to construct smaller homes.

Furthermore, the price of land is driven up, "which means that if you decide to increase the size of the house, you drive up the cost of the house", he furthered.

According to a survey conducted by the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment, 37 per cent of people who own new homes say they do not have enough space to entertain guests properly.

A further 35 per cent said they do not have sufficient space for basic kitchen appliances like a toaster of a microwave.
