History
Born out of industry.
Established in 2003, MET was born out of industry when a local business partner had difficulty sourcing good quality gas engineers to meet the demands of their contracts.
Now with a multi million pound annual turnover, associations with leading UK accrediting bodies and some of the best training facilities within the United Kingdom, MET’s journey has been rapid yet structured.
From our early origins in South Yorkshire, MET quickly forged a name of quality by designing courses with employers and changing industry regulations in mind.
By combining practical and theory tuition, MET quickly became the house hold name in vocational training in the domestic trades sector.
Between 2004 and 2007, MET continued to develop its business portfolio and its reputation, moving from its small origins to a robust effective business teaching thousands of students a year - with a 97% success rate.
Plumbers Boom
Fueled by the “plumber’s boom”, we further expanded our services into plumbing, domestic electricity and health and safety training – equipping people with the skills to work safely and competently. We were truly established as the leading training provider in our sector.
During 2007, the success of MET drew a number of acquisition suitors, with a deal completed in late 2007 for MET to become part of Spice Plc.
In 2010 Spice became part of Cinven, employing in excess of 5,000 employees working daily in some of the most safety focussed industries in the world, saw MET as a proven vehicle for ensuring the competence of all its employees.
Growth and Expansion - Continual Competence Improvement
Post acquisition, MET has continued to improve its training portfolio with further diversification into renewable heat devices and additional health and safety training.
During 2008, MET embarked upon aggressive expansion plans, with a strategic aim of:
- Increasing our capacity in domestic gas and electricity
- Making our capabilities more easily accessible to geographies further afield
- Expanding our capabilities in renewable heat devices and niche health and safety services
- Facilitating our parent companies objective of being able to deliver for themselves and their customers, best in class training in Electrical Engineering and Water Networks directly from MET’s premises
The Corby Training Centre was born.
Two years in planning, one year in construction and operational since late 2009, MET are now able to boast a set of facilities this are unrivalled anywhere within the UK or indeed Europe.
Set in eight acres of land and with over 80,000 Sq foot of training, the centre focuses upon MET’s traditional markets, as well as niche Health and Safety issues and the utility industries of Electricity and Water.
Our Future
With everything now in place MET stands poised to continue our improvement and our growth through 2010 and beyond. With training products linked to the key jobs needed to keep countries sustainable, we are excited about our future and how we can continue to create opportunities and change lives for our customers.
With facility upgrades also underway in our Rotherham site, MET looks to the future with confidence.
