Family Action (formerly Family Welfare Association) is delighted to announce a new fund – The Horizons Education Fund - which aims to support lone parents in education. 

The Horizons Education Fund, funded by Barclaycard, aims to support lone parents who have the motivation, determination and ability to improve their employment prospects.  Grants of up to £1,500 per annum can be made to lone parents who meet the fund’s criteria.

The SkillWorks for Construction funded training programme offers SMEs up to 60% towards the cost of training, and larger organisations employing over 250 people gain up to 40% funding towards its costs. In fact the SkillWorks for Construction funded training programme will subsidise almost any training course,

Educational Grants Advisory Service (EGAS)

The Educational Grants Advisory Service (EGAS) offers guidance and advice on funding for those studying in post-16 education in the UK.
 
EGAS operates nationally providing comprehensive advice and information on sources of funding available for post-16 education and training including loans, grants, benefits, access funds, hardship funds, bursaries and charitable trusts.

EGAS publishes a Guide To Student Funding which is available on our website. The pack in its entirety is available to affiliated organisations.

Educational grants
EGAS is not a grant-giving body itself. However, EGAS is part of the Family Welfare Association (FWA) which is trustee to a number of educational trusts with a range of eligibility criteria. Students cannot apply to these trusts directly; all enquiries should be addressed to EGAS.

Sheffield Reference Library

Holds information on a database of grant making trusts. You would need to go to the 1st floor of the Reference Library in Sheffield on Surrey Street, and use their Funder Finder database to find out about grant making trusts.

This database lists trusts that are most likely to help you with any funding that may be available.

You would need to read through each trust and select the most helpful one that is applicable to you. You can print the information off free of charge and then make contact with the trust to apply for any funding.

Offer small number of bursaries (educational grants) each year to people who would like the opportunity to study for a City & Guilds qualification.

The bursaries can be used for a wide range of purposes including, paying your course fees (if you have no other funding), covering the costs of a break from work whilst you re-train, covering childcare or travel expenses, cover other costs that are making it difficult for you to enrol onto a course.

Ace Project

May help towards the cost of a course. Applicants can be of any age, and they can help you if you have been unemployed long term or recently, have been made redundant, if you work less than 8hrs per week, or are recieving any other benefits i.e incapacity.

Ace do not fund all course fees, just part of it and the person must have a definate job offer that is anticipated to last 13 weeks or more.
